Race for Life - Showing off medals for participation

"I think the fact that the games are in Glasgow would just be incredible....I kind of have to be there." Nony Mordi, International Triple Jumper

As we approach London 2012 and of course, Glasgow 2014, Edinburgh will inevitably be gripped by Olympic and Commonwealth Games fever.

The City of Edinburgh Council is leading a legacy steering group with partners which include representatives from Edinburgh Leisure, Sportscotland, ClubSportEdinburgh, the further and higher education sector, NHS Lothian and Festivals Edinburgh.

This group will look at the ways in which the city can capitalise on the increased profile sport and physical activity will get as a result of 2012 and 2014.

Already, as a result of this group, Edinburgh's annual Festival of Sport has been established and there is ongoing work on community sports hubs and club development. We are looking at Edinburgh as a training camp base for countries competing in both competitions.

Visit here for information and updates on the group's progress as we build up to 2014 and beyond.

As part of the build up to the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Active Nation is helping people to get more active. Challenge your family and friends to set a personal activity goal.
