Welcome to Activcity: The City of Edinburgh Council's one stop shop for sport and physical activity. Activcity aims to increase regular involvement in physical activity and sport by all local people. Our vision is that Edinburgh will be the most active city in Europe by 2020.
Following the incredible success of the London 2012 Games and as we look to the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games and the Ryder Cup, we are in the midst of an unprecedented decade for sport that has the potential to inspire a generation to get active and strive to achieve their potential.
We lead and support a range of initiatives that enable local people to get active. Whether you are getting involved in exercise for the first time, or want to try out a new sport, there are opportunities for you to get involved in.
It is recommended that adults should do at least 30 minutes of physical activity per day and children should aim for at least 60 minutes. This is important to improve our health and is excellent for our overall wellbeing. To find out more about the health benefits of physical activity visit our Why be Active? section.
Getting the benefits of regular physical activity can be fun and incorporated with simple changes to your lifestyle. Getting back to basics by walking and cycling around Edinburgh is one of the easiest ways to be active.
